How to Sort Data

Indian Language Sort allows users to sort Indian Language ISFOC as well as UNICODE data in ascending or descending order, based on the contents of one or more columns. The utility only rearranges cells contents. Attributes (bold, italic, font colour etc.) applied to the cell contents do not get rearranged.

Indian Language Sort uses the principle of ISCII Sort or Dictionary Sort to sort data.

Follow the steps described below to sort Indian Language data.

Step 1 ▬

Open the Excel sheet containing Indian Language data you want to sort. Select the columns you want to sort. You can select maximum 10,000 rows for sorting. Click on Indian Language Sort button to open the Sort dialog.

Step 2 ▬

Specify the Sort options in the Sort dialog box.

  • Specify the order of columns you want to sort by, using the Sort By and Then By fields as shown in the screen shot above.
  • Specify the sorting order, viz Ascending or Descending.
  • In Sorting Option, specify the sorting standard you want to use, viz ISCII Sort or Dictionary Sort.

An example of sorted data is shown below for reference.

NOTE ▬

  • Sorting of data in multiple font types in not supported.
  • Empty cells are allocated the highest sort position followed by ASCII data (English or numeric Data). That is, the sorting algorithm arranges empty cells at the end when sorting in ascending order, while it arranges these cells at the beginning when sorting in descending order.
